Your Hosts

The people are the experience. Everything else is just the setting.

Felipe - Your Guide, Your Friend

“Trust your guide.” This is Felipe’s mantra, and for good reason. With his deep-rooted knowledge of the Osa Peninsula, he offers far more than just any guide could— he provides memorable experiences. With degrees in tourism and hotel management, Felipe set off to embrace the multicultural world — traveling and working from the United States to Europe to the Philippines. But it was the Osa Peninsula that captured him. He came for the waves and the wildlife. He stayed because he found a place where his passion for culture, adventure, and genuine human connection could become a way of life.

Felipe is the reason people come back. He'll take you surfing at dawn at Pan Dulce — a world-class left point break three minutes from your door. He'll put your kids on a kayak in the Golfo Dulce and show them dolphins. He'll organize a fishing trip on The Girlfriend — our private boat — and help Angelica cook what you caught that night. He'll take you across the gulf to surf Pavones when the swell lines up. And at dinner, he'll be the one making everyone laugh while the jungle buzzes around you.

He's not a concierge you call through an app. He's not reading from a script. He's the guy who remembers how you like your coffee by day two, who knows where the toucans nest, who will carry your kid's surfboard back up the beach. He's been doing this at Tumbo for years because he genuinely loves it — and you'll feel that from the moment you arrive.

"The staff are the crowning achievement of the house. They will go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible." — William V.

Angélica - Your Personal Chef

A San José native, Angelica brings 19 years of culinary craft to every plate she touches. Rooted in the traditions of Costa Rica and refined by a deep love of cooking from scratch, she sources the freshest local ingredients — fish from the Golfo Dulce, fruit from the trees on the property, herbs from her garden — and turns them into meals that guests consistently call the best they've ever had.

Every breakfast, lunch, and dinner is prepared with care, tailored to your group's tastes, and served in the open air with the jungle as your dining room. Mornings start with fresh-squeezed juice, bold Costa Rican coffee, and homemade bread still warm from the oven. Lunch might be mahi mahi ceviche with mango and coconut served with crispy patacones. Dinner is where she really shines — seared ahi rolled in sesame seeds, classic Tumbo BBQ with chimichurri, or whatever the ocean offered that day.

Dietary needs, allergies, picky kids — she handles it all without missing a beat. And if you want to learn her secrets, she'll teach you in a hands-on cooking class that's become one of the most popular experiences at Tumbo. This isn't hotel food. This is someone cooking for you like you're family. She doesn't cook for guests. She cooks for friends she hasn't met yet.

I have never experienced such consistently amazing food — and as a New Yorker, that is saying a lot." — Alexandra S.
